FAU Women's Basketball: Revenge on St. Louis

The next upcoming home game is on December 10 against the St. Louis Billikens. This is a game that the team, including the coaches, are talking about because of what happened last year in St. Louis.

"I'm excited about this game against St. Louis because the loss against them left a bad taste in my mouth last year," said head coach Chancellor Dugan. " It was a game that we most definitely should have won but no one played to their full potential".

The Lady Owls have almost two weeks to prepare for the game against St. Louis, so they can be prepared to dominate against them and to get back on the road of winning.

FAU Women's Basketball: University of Kansas' Hall of Fame

FAU Women's Basketball: Growing as a Team

This past Thanksgiving weekend, the FAU women's basketball team competed in the Basketball Travelers Tip-off Classic in Lawrence, Kansas and played against 3 teams, two of which was selected to play in last year's season 2011 WNIT post-season tournament.

Before entering the tournament, the record was 3-1. The women's team lost all 3 games which brings the record to 3-4 that many would see as a bad thing,  but not to this team and the coaches.

"Although we lost these games, which I'm not proud of, we turned a corner," said assistant coach Cristal Randolph. "These games brought to our attention that, even though we lost, we are a great team. We only have minor things that can be fixed."

They all see this tournament as a learning experience and took notice to things that they do need to work on n practice.

"We lost these games because of lay-ups and free throws, which I preach to the team almost everyday about", said head coach Chancellor Dugan. " Although we weren't as successful during this trip, we never gave up and we continued to play til the end which we wouldn't have done last year and for that I see that we grew as a team and I am proud of them".

FAU Women's Basketball: Inspiration

Almost every week, on every scouting report on a team we have to play, or even during the practices, our coaches give us inspirational quotes.

This week, assistant coach Shannon Litton gave us a quote to remind us everyday what we need to do in order to become successful and happy, not just on the court but in life.

"Even though this is hard, even though I don't understand it, even though it's not fair, I'll keep a good attitude and know that this is not setting me back. It is setting me up for God to bring me through to the other side of this in an even better position. "

FAU Women's Basketball: Third Team Preseason All Sunbelt Honoree

Being on the Third Preseason All Sunbelt Team is a honor. Besides the fact that I am hurt, it is a positive and I am going to continue to move forward. Maybe next year, I'll even be First All Sunbelt Team during the post season.

FAU Women's Basketball: Ending the Season Before it Started with an ACL Injury

Being hurt and not being able to play for a year is one of the hardest things for me deal with. Although Im recieving a medical red-shirt and getting another shot at my senior year, the thought of never being able to play with most of my team ever again hurts the most.

Most of the team consists of seniors, some that decided that they don't ever want to play ball again and some that have plans on going to different countries to play. There is one particular senior that I came in with as a freshman, Teri Stamps, who is also my best friend. Not being able to play on our home court together again makes me feel like I'm missing out on so much this year.

As I was told, everything happens for a reason and God has another plan for me. I dont know what he has for me in the future but all I know is that I will work even harder to become the best ball player that I can be and to not let my injury get the best of me.

The coaches are hoping that many people that would be attending the football games would come and take a look at the women's basketball team.

"I know if people came to our games, they would see how exciting it is and would come more often," said Kimberly Smith, Sophmore. "Maybe the video that would play on the big screen for the football games would make people interested and would come and see what we're all about."

FAU Women's Basketball: Same team, New defense

A new defense was put in at the beginning of yesterday's practice. Coach Chancellor Dugan expresses the importance of defense and what would make the team successful this year's season.

"I feel that there needed to be a change in the defense because of the average total points that our opponents are scoring on us", said head coach Chancellor Dugan. "If we can cut down their scoring and continue scoring on our end then we will win a lot more games."

FAU Women's Basketball: Recruit Commited

Every year there are girls that go to different schools on visit to decided if they want to sign a full scholarship to attend and play basketball at the school.

So far, the women's basketball team has had two girls to come and visit. One of the girls right after the visit has decided to commit, Morgan Robinson from the Orlando area. She is a shooting guard who is expected to make a impact on next years team.

The coaches are still waiting for confirmation from Joy Brown, who is the other girl that came on an official visit to the school.

FAU Women's Basketball: Coaches' Thoughts on the Upcoming Season

The coaches are very excited as they talk about the upcoming season. They believe that there's an opportunity behind the door to become Sun Belt Champions and make it to the big dance, or the NCAA women's basketball tournament.

“The new offenses that we’re putting in this season has so many options for each individual player", said Chancellor Dugan, head coach. "The plays can really expose their strengths and give each player a chance to make their own decisions on what's the best move for them.”

FAU Women's Basketball: Team Bonding

Bonding is considered one of the most important things that you have to do to be successful as a team, atleast that's what the FAU women's basketball team believes.

"We have to get to know each other in order to be successful", said senior guard Dalita Scott. "We have to know what makes each other happy so that we can learn to trust one another and we have to know what motivates each other so that we would want to fight for each other."

FAU Women's Basketball: End of Preseason Condition

The last day of preseason condition was Tuesday September 27 for the FAU women's basketball team, as well as other teams through out the country.

"Preseason conditioning is the toughest part of the season", said senior forward Mariana Byczkowski. "Although its the toughest, it teaches us to be mentally strong, brings us together as a team and helps us through future adversity".

FAU Women’s Basketball: Progression Towards the Season

With the in season practices starting and the first game day growing closer, everything that the women’s basketball team has been working for is coming together.

Practices are starting on the weekends and everyone seems excited that preseason conditioning has ended and in season practices are finally beginning.
“Overall I think everyone is working hard and it helps that it’s not so many new faces and the terminology the same and it helps the team move a long faster than last year”, said assistant coach Yolanda Cole.

FAU Women’s Basketball: Upcoming Midterm Adjustments

Upcoming midterms can sometimes be a problem due to the fact of the practice schedules and classes being all day for some. Trying to study for these important midterms can be extra pressure put on the women’s basketball players, especially for new comers and freshman because of the lack of time management.

So the FAU women’s basketball coaches decide to have team study hall during the last hour of practice every day so that everyone can stay eligible.

“We have to make sure that everyone stays eligible for the spring semester. I understand that it can be hard trying to study for midterms while going through tough practices because of the upcoming season”, said head coach Chancellor Dugan. “ I was a college basketball player once so I fully understand how tough it  can be.”

FAU Women’s Basketball: Holiday Games

This upcoming season, or almost every year for the women’s basketball team, many of the games conflict with Thanksgiving, New Years, or even a little more time with the family for Christmas. This year the team has to play on Thanksgiving Day and New Years Eve.

“I would like to spend more time with my family and I would like to actually have a Thanksgiving holiday as well but these are just the sacrifices that we as college basketball players have to make”, said senior guard Teri Stamps

Both of the games on these holidays are in Kansas and Louisiana, a long way from home for some of these players.

“I’m not too much worried about the holidays. I’m worried about getting these wins so we can be one step closer to a winning season”, said senior forward Vontrice Dennis.
